Church Gifts Generator to Help Power Guatemala's Largest Hospital

President Bernardo Arévalo receives donation to ensure uninterrupted services to thousands of patients

Elder Gregorio Casillas, a member of the Central America Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, formally presented an industrial generator for San Juan de Dios General Hospital to Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo. The ceremony took place Monday, February 2, 2026, at the National Palace of Culture in Guatemala City.

San Juan de Dios is the largest public hospital in the country, serving more than 439,000 patients a year. The donation included the purchase and installation of a 1.6‑megawatt industrial generator that will cover all the hospital’s electrical needs, ensuring continuous operation of critical services such as intensive care, operating rooms, maternity, pediatrics and diagnostic areas.

President Bernardo Arévalo thanked the Church of Jesus Christ for the significant contribution, noting the generator’s importance in benefiting thousands of people and ensuring continuous care across all hospital departments.

“When the public sector and its partners work together, the results translate into better living conditions for the population as a whole,” President Arévalo added.

Elder Casillas emphasized that the donation reflects the Church’s ongoing commitment to supporting the nation’s institutions in their mission to serve the population.

“This project was carried out with a spirit of service to provide a resource with a sacred purpose: to protect life,” Elder Casillas said.

Minister of Health and Social Assistance Joaquín Barnoya stated that this type of humanitarian initiative will allow uninterrupted services to protect the lives and health of Guatemalans who rely on the hospital. He expressed gratitude to the Church for the positive impact of the donation.

Funding for the generator was made possible through fast‑offering donations — voluntary monthly contributions from Church members worldwide, given as a sincere effort to follow the Savior’s example of service.
