Houston Texas South Temple Site Announced

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the location of the Houston Texas South Temple.

Originally announced on April 7, 2024, the temple will be built on a 15.7-acre site located along Fort Bend Parkway, just north of Sienna Parkway in Missouri City, Texas.

Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 46,000 square feet, a meetinghouse, and an accompanying ancillary building. This will be the city’s first temple.

Texas is home to nearly 400,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 750 congregations.

In addition to the Houston Texas South Temple, nine additional temples have been announced, are under construction or in operation in Texas: Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fairview, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, McAllen and San Antonio

When President Russell M. Nelson announced the Houston Texas South Temple and 14 others in general conference, he said:

“Here is my promise. Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than worshipping in the temple as regularly as your circumstances permit. Nothing will protect you more as you encounter the world’s mists of darkness. Nothing will bolster your testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement or help you understand God’s magnificent plan more. Nothing will soothe your spirit more during times of pain. Nothing will open the heavens more. Nothing! The temple is the gateway to the greatest blessings God has for each of us.”
