From Barcelona to Bangkok, Tokyo to Tampa, and Santiago to Sydney, the 2025 Light the World Giving Machine kiosks gave people everywhere a unique and memorable way to follow Jesus Christ’s invitation to “love thy neighbor” (Matthew 22:39).
Beginning in mid-November 2025 and running through the first week of January 2026, nearly 1 million people visited Giving Machine kiosks in 126 cities across 21 countries on six continents.
During that time, approximately 4.8 million items were purchased. In the coming months, each will be delivered to individuals in need — whether they live across the street or around the world.

Referencing Acts 10:38, Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and chair of the Missionary Executive Council, said, “Jesus of Nazareth went about doing good. I can think of no better gift we can give the Savior than to love one another as He did. The Giving Machine initiative is a beautiful way to do just that.”
Inside every Giving Machine kiosk, trusted local and global nonprofits offer essential items that visitors can donate, such as food, clean water, clothing, scholarships, educational materials, healthcare and hygiene supplies, business training, and household essentials. Whatever the item, the impact on individuals and families often reaches far beyond what donors might imagine.

Changing Lives in Unexpected Ways
In western Nepal, thousands of girls and women lack access to basic menstrual hygiene education and supplies. Sadly, cultural stigma often leads them to believe they are unclean or cursed during menstruation, and some are forced into isolation each month. For many young girls, this means missing school so often that they eventually fall behind and drop out.
Through the Giving Machine Initiative, menstrual health education and hygiene kits are helping tens of thousands of girls remain in school and live happier, healthier, and more dignified lives. Few donors who purchase a hygiene kit realize that their simple act of generosity can create such lasting change.
Thousands of miles away, on the southern tip of Palawan in the Philippines, the gift of piglets is helping hundreds of families improve their livelihoods. What may seem like a small gift can become a powerful economic lifeline — sometimes for generations.
Ricky and Junila Serafin live with their three children in humble conditions, and providing for their family has long been a challenge. Last year, they received two piglets donated through a Giving Machine by someone they will never meet — but whose kindness has changed their lives for good.
“We were so happy to receive these pigs,” said Junila. “We have very little income, but we took care of the pigs and raised them, and in a few months, we made a profit — enough to meet our needs and purchase additional pigs to keep going.”
Another father shared, “With these pigs, I see a good future ahead. Now I can provide for my family in ways I couldn’t before, like buying school supplies for my children. I am very grateful to the donor who gave my family these pigs.”
2025 Giving Machine Impact
During the 2025 Giving Machine season, more than 500 nonprofits participated, offering over 3,200 different items for donation.
As those donations are delivered in the coming months, their collective impact will be significant:
- 3.5 million meals will help feed the hungry.
- 500,000 children will receive life-saving vaccinations, protecting them from preventable diseases such as polio, measles, and tetanus.
- 350,000 months of menstrual hygiene care will help women and girls live with dignity.
- 108,000 children and adults will receive essential clothing, including shoes, socks, coats, everyday attire, and school uniforms.
- 97,000 books, school supplies, and technology resources will support education for tens of thousands of children.
- 40,000 hygiene kits, with items such as soap, deodorant, and toothpaste, will provide cleanliness and confidence to students, refugees, and shelter residents.
A Growing Global Movement
In 2025, Giving Machine kiosks appeared for the first time in several new locations, including Bangkok, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Rome, Santiago, São Paulo, Tokyo, and Vienna — bringing the experience to new audiences across Asia, Europe, and South America.
Since the first Giving Machine appeared in 2017, approximately US$70 million has been donated through the initiative.
Three factors contribute significantly to its success:
First, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all operational expenses. As a result, 100% of the donated money goes to participating nonprofits so they can help those in need.
Second, these participating organizations undergo a thorough vetting process with strict criteria. Of particular interest, they cannot use more than 10% of their receipts for administrative purposes.
Third, in each city where machines are placed, hundreds of volunteers serve on planning committees or as on-site hosts, welcoming visitors and helping them participate in the experience.
Continuing to Light the World
For many visitors, the Giving Machine experience is much more than a charitable act. It has become a meaningful Christmas tradition centered on service and compassion.
As donations from the 2025 season begin reaching individuals and families in the months ahead, countless lives will be blessed through the generosity of people who chose to give of themselves as the Savior taught.
The Light the World Giving Machine initiative will continue during the 2026 Christmas season. Until then, visit GivingMachine.org, @givingmachine on Instagram or @officiallighttheworldgivingmachine on Facebook to see how your gift is making a difference around the world.
