(The following story was first reported on MormonNewsroom.org’s Spain site.)

Elder Erich W. Kopischke of the Seventy told the World Congress of Families (WCF) last week in Madrid, Spain, that “a civilization and a society can and will be only as strong as its families,” and that “a family can and will be only as strong as the marriage on which it is based.”

Elder Kopischke’s comments came during the Congress’s open plenary session titled, “The Case for Marriage.” The World Congress of Families seeks to defend the family and guide public policy and cultural norms.

Prior to speaking at the WCF, Elder Kopischke spoke with Church public affairs officials in Europe about the importance of family to both The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and society as a whole. See the video below to hear his comments.
