More than 1 million students worldwide are enrolled in Seminaries and Institutes of Religion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, marking an unprecedented milestone in the program’s more than 100-year history.
The growth reflects youth and young adults across the globe choosing to study the scriptures, strengthen their relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and gather in communities centered on the Savior.
Over the past two years, enrollment has increased significantly, with nearly 200,000 new students joining. Included in the 1 million currently enrolled are approximately 75,000 friends enrolled from other faiths — evidence that youth and young adults are gathering and inviting others in record numbers.
“Something wonderful has been happening,” said Brother Chad H Webb, administrator of Seminaries and Institutes of Religion. “The Lord is blessing His children and hastening His work.”
He also expressed gratitude for the many who have made this growth possible. “We are deeply grateful for parents, leaders, instructors, and especially our youth and young adults who are inviting others to learn about Jesus Christ,” he said. “We express our sincere gratitude to the Lord and to devoted disciples around the world for their love, their invitations, and their ministering efforts that are helping to gather and teach His children.”
The milestone comes during a historic year for Institutes of Religion, which is celebrating its centennial. It also follows a recent invitation from President Dallin H. Oaks encouraging young adults to consistently attend institute. President Oaks promised that participation would bring the Savior’s “peace, joy and divine love.”

Brother Webb emphasized the power of simple invitations.
“I think it’s an easy invitation for the youth and the young adults to invite their friends … and then they have a chance to start to study the gospel, and they feel the Holy Ghost and are drawn to want to come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through the things that they’re learning,” he said.

Participation in seminary and institute strengthens faith in the Savior and deepens conversion to Jesus Christ. Youth and young adults learn to distinguish truth from error, find direction for education, employment, and family life, and prepare to love and lead like the Savior. Many also describe a deepened sense of belonging and spiritual confidence as they gather with others centered on Him.
Across continents — in classrooms near high schools and universities, in meetinghouses and online — youth and young adults are studying doctrine, asking sincere questions, and supporting one another in living the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Every one of you who attends ... this year will literally be one in a million,” Brother Webb said during a recent worldwide devotional, “an important part of a historic year, known and numbered by our Father in Heaven.”
As the Lord continues to hasten His work, the invitation remains clear: come, study the gospel of Jesus Christ, gather with others who are striving to follow Him, and invite a friend to be ONE in a million.
