Misstatement:
"And with the nation's ninth highest suicide rate, Utah is even getting the federal government's attention."
Clarification:
Suicide is a bigger problem in the western United States than in the rest of the country. In the west, only California and Washington have lower rates of suicide than Utah. So to speculate on possible connections between depression, suicide and a high percentage of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is misleading.
Research indicates that among active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the suicide rate is substantially lower than in the rest of the state's population.
