Swedish Family History Workshop

The Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is pleased to announce that eight members of the Federation of Swedish Genealogical Societies will be in Salt Lake City next week to conduct classes and workshops for those tracing Swedish ancestry. Among them is noted genealogist Ted Rosvall who is president of the 42,000-member organization.

Informal workshops will be held on level B-1 of the Family History Library on Thursday, 15 August, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and will continue all day Friday and Saturday, 16 and 17 August. Classes entitled "New Ways of Finding Your Swedish Roots," "Swedish Internet Resources " and "The Man Who Disappeared" will be offered on each of the three days.

The workshops will include presentations about genealogy resources on the Internet, including a demonstration of Swedish emigration databases. The workshops will help genealogists answer the two most frequently asked questions: Where in Sweden was my immigrant born? and, Is it possible to find somebody related to me in Sweden? As an added feature, participants may submit questions online to researchers in several archives and libraries in Sweden who will be standing by to check records and provide quick answers.

"We are so pleased Mr. Rosvall and his associates are willing to come here," said Glade Nelson, director of the Family History Library. "This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone with Swedish ancestry to receive personal assistance in locating their Swedish ancestors at absolutely no cost."

Anyone interested in attending the workshops is encouraged to visit the federation's Web site at www.dis.se, complete the research query form and bring a printout to the library. There is no charge for the workshops, but interested parties are requested to pre-register by calling 801-240-2358.
