The Tampa Florida Temple was announced in April 2022 by Church President Russell M. Nelson. “Temples will bless countless lives on both sides of the veil,” he said after announcing the Tampa Temple.

The other four temples that are announced, under construction or in operation in Florida are the Fort Lauderdale Florida, Jacksonville Florida, Orlando Florida and Tallahassee Florida temples.

The first Latter-day Saint congregation was created in 1897 in the Big Bend region of this southeastern state. By 1904, there were 1,230 Church members in Florida. Today, there are more than 168,000 Latter-day Saints in over 280 congregations.

Latter-day Saints worship in temples for several reasons: to feel God’s love and peace, to learn more about God’s plan for His children and the gospel of Jesus Christ, to make promises with God and with one’s husband or wife, and to unite families in this life and the next through sacred ordinances.
