Temple Square Renovation Update: November 2025

Crews make progress on new elements of the Salt Lake Temple as The Roof Restaurant at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building reopens

A familiar dining experience in downtown Salt Lake City has returned. The Roof Restaurant, located on the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, is now open following a substantial renovation. It joins other areas of the building already accessible to the public, including the lobby, mezzanine and The Garden Restaurant.

Overlooking the historic Salt Lake Temple, The Roof now offers an elevated, à la carte dining experience, featuring a menu inspired by local flavors.

Formerly known for its buffet, The Roof now features a curated sit-down format. The menu includes selections like wood-fired flatbreads and signature steaks; a unique take on Utah favorites like Funeral Potato Bites and the Utah Scone, made from the iconic Lion House roll; and desserts highlighting local honey.

The Roof Restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Salt Lake Temple Updates

Work on the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is moving forward.

Beautiful new chandeliers have been installed in the temple’s sealing rooms located in the north addition. The recently restored original chandeliers were placed in the assembly room. These fixtures, designed to blend with the temple’s original 19th-century aesthetic, brighten the new interior spaces, which are nearing completion.

The sealing-wing addition on the north side of the temple is also nearly finished, with detailed stonework and the installation of new windows. This addition will include five sealing rooms — three large and two smaller rooms — providing additional space for sacred ordinances.

There will be a total of 22 sealing rooms: 10 in the historic Temple, including the sealing wing, and 12 in the temple’s north addition.

Construction of the north temple entrance buildings continues to progress, with stone cladding, walkways and landscaping taking shape. Finish work, including detailed trim and millwork, is also underway in the main lobby.

On the east side of the west temple entrance building, the “Holiness to the Lord” and “House of the Lord” panels are installed. These statements were engraved in the stonework off-site, and the lettering’s gold gilding was applied after installation.

These developments show steady progress in the multiyear effort to strengthen and preserve the Salt Lake Temple, preparing for the public Open House Celebration beginning in April 2027.
