North Carolina is home to nearly 98,000 Latter-day Saints, meeting in around 190 congregations. This will be the Church’s second temple in the state, joining the Raleigh North Carolina Temple.
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Charlotte North Carolina Temple in April 2023.
“Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples. Each is His holy house,” he said. “Making covenants and receiving essential ordinances in the temple, as well as seeking to draw closer to Him there, will bless your life in ways no other kind of worship can.”
Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ are different from meetinghouses or chapels where members gather for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a house of the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ceremonies that unite families for eternity.
