Latter-day Saints worship in temples for several reasons: to make sacred promises with God, to learn more about God’s plan for His children and the central role of Jesus Christ in that plan, and to unite families for eternity.
Visitors of all ages are invited to a free public open house held for most new or renovated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The open house includes a video and a walk-through tour of the temple. After the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful members of the Church.
The Church now has 383 total temples — dedicated, under construction, in planning and design, or announced.
These include:
- 214 temples dedicated, 8 of which are under renovation or reconstruction
- 7 temples scheduled for dedication
- 54 temples under construction
- 2 temples scheduled for groundbreaking
- 56 temples with published site locations
- 52 announced temples in planning but without sites made public
The most recent temple dedication was for the Harare Zimbabe Temple on March 1, by Elder Gerrit W. Gong.
