At the close of general conference Easter morning, April 5, 2026, President Dallin H. Oaks, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, taught that belief in a literal, universal resurrection helps individuals live together in love in this life and anticipate joyful reunions in the next.
Latter-day Saints can choose to follow Christ’s teachings and example to love others, including adversaries, even if they show little to no love in return, he said.
“Peacemakers! How it would change the world if followers of Christ would forgo harsh and hurtful words in all their communications,” he said.
President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the session from the Conference Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, where thousands listened in person and hundreds of thousands tuned in from around the world.
Just as the small group of women who, despite grief, fear, and unanswered questions, encountered Christ's empty tomb and learned for themselves the glorious truth of His Resurrection, “we must all do the same,” said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
“We must encounter the empty tomb, experience the reality of what it means and, in turn, share that witness with others,” he said.
“Because of what happened on that Sunday morning, we can speak of Jesus Christ in the present tense. He lives! Today. At this moment,” he said.

Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “Jesus Christ broke the bands of death imposed by the fall,” he said. “With His Resurrection, He secured salvation from physical death for us, all of God’s children throughout the ages.”
He added, “May we testify of Him by the way we live and what we love. May we feel to our very souls these stirring words: “He is risen! He is risen! Tell it out with joyful voice” and “Let the whole wide earth rejoice (‘He Is Risen!’ Hymns, No. 199).”
Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles encouraged listeners to keep their focus on Jesus Christ. Because of Him, death is not the end, all who repent are forgiven, and all of life’s unfairness will be made right. Focus on Him, he taught.
“Because Jesus Christ completed the Atonement, He has the power to help you along your earthly journey and to redeem you from death, both physical and spiritual,” he said. “Celebrate the joyous message of Easter every day by reflecting every day on the blessings you receive because of Him. ‘Open wide your broken heart and let your Savior in!’”
Mortality includes both best days and worst days, which helps individuals become who the Lord needs them to be, taught Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman. The Savior’s suffering and empty tomb show He knows all about both the worst and the best days. “Jesus Christ is our strength,” she said. “Because of Him, no matter how bad things are right now, your best days are ahead.”
Sacrament meeting is the most important meeting in the Church because of the ordinance of the sacrament, which represents the Lord’s Atonement, said Elder Pedro X. Larreal of the Seventy. “The Atonement and the sacrament are a direct reminder of the great love Jesus Christ showed each of us as He made it possible for us to be delivered from the chains of physical and spiritual death,” he said.
During the sacrament, he encouraged Latter-day Saints to strive to remove worldly thoughts, be prayerful and reverent, and seek to feel His love and remember Him.
Elder Edward B. Rowe of the Seventy said Christ’s invitation to walk with Him is for all. “Jesus Christ is thus not only a perfect and personal guide — He is also the resurrected Redeemer and Master Healer!” he said. “No matter how injured you are or how imperfect and inadequate you feel at following Him, He loves you. His merciful hand is extended to you even now. Take it!”

Understanding what Jesus Christ offers through His Atonement and Resurrection brings comfort, peace and reassurance, said Elder Thierry K. Mutombo of the Seventy. “‘Come unto me’ is a divine invitation which means wherever you are now, whatever you are going through in your life, you can feel God’s infinite love manifested through His Son, Jesus Christ.”
Elder Alan R. Walker of the Seventy said that Heavenly Father’s greatest desire is for His children to live with Him again and enjoy eternal life by His side. “The Lord does not ask for perfection all at once,” he said, “rather, He asks for honest and broken hearts, humble spirits, and a willing readiness to keep our covenants — even when it requires sacrifice.”
Prayers given by President Paul V. Johnson, Sunday School General President, and Sister Amy A. Wright, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency.
Music was provided by The Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square, directed by Mack Wilberg, and accompanied by Richard Elliot and Andrew Unsworth at the organ.
