The second dedicated house of the Lord in the state

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the open house and dedication dates for the Cleveland Ohio Temple.

A media day will be held Monday, June 15, 2026, followed by private tours for invited guests on June 16 and 17, 2026. The public open house will be held June 18 through July 3, 2026 (Excluding Sundays).

Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the dedication on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. (Rebroadcast: 2:00 p.m.). The dedicatory session will be broadcast to all units in the Cleveland Ohio Temple district.

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Cleveland Ohio Temple in April 2022.

I plead with you to counter worldly ways by focusing on the eternal blessings of the temple. Your time there brings blessings for eternity, he said.

Ohio is home to nearly 66,000 Latter-day Saints meeting in almost 130 congregations. The Cleveland Ohio Temple will be the second dedicated house of the Lord in the state. The Columbus Ohio Temple was dedicated in 1999, and the Cincinnati Ohio Temple was announced in April 2024.

Many historical events for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took place in Ohio. The Churchs first house of the Lordthe Kirtland Temple—was built there. Since the 1830s, the Community of Christ had preserved and cared for the Kirtland Temple, and in March 2024, stewardship of the building was transferred to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Kirtland Temple is only a short distance from the newly constructed Cleveland Ohio Temple.

Latter-day Saints consider each temple a house of the Lord and the most sacred place of worship on earth. Temples differ from the Churchs meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies, such as marriages, which unite families forever, and proxy baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to be baptized while living.
