According to the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Palm Sunday, Easter, and general conference are “wonderful opportunities” to commemorate the Savior’s Atonement and Resurrection. This year, Easter and general conference occur on the same weekend, April 4-5.
The Church has prepared several resources for leaders and members to experience and share the Savior’s “greater love” during this sacred season.
‘Greater Love’
The Church’s annual “Greater Love” Easter initiative is based on John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” The theme invites better understanding and emulation of the greater love of Jesus Christ.
This year’s video, “Greater Love for You,” released March 1, conveys God’s love for His children and that through Jesus Christ’s Resurrection, “all will live again. No one will be forgotten. Because of Him, you can experience a fullness of joy. This is greater love. This is Easter.”

An Expanded Easter Season
In recent years, Church leaders have encouraged elevating Easter observance from a single day to a season. Like Christmastime, Easter provides another natural opportunity to love, share and invite all to learn about Jesus Christ, and the Church encourages its members to participate in this expanded Easter season.
The global Church began focusing on Easter on February 22 with the publication of the First Presidency’s Easter message. The seasonal celebrations will peak with Holy Week, extending from Palm Sunday on March 29 through Easter Sunday on April 5 and general conference sessions that same weekend.
First Presidency’s Easter Message
In their recent Easter message, the First Presidency extended an invitation to “seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written” (Ether 12:41) during the Easter season.
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday on March 29 is an opportunity for members to invite friends and neighbors to worship with other members in local congregations. That day, congregations Churchwide will hold a special one-hour worship service focused on the Atonement and Resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ (unless a stake conference is already scheduled) with an invitation to local community members to attend.
Holy Week
In honor of Holy Week, March 29 – April 5, Easter.ChurchofJesusChrist.org features a special online study experience focusing on the Savior’s teachings during the last week of His mortal ministry. This resource will also be highlighted in the Gospel Library app and linked to from “Come, Follow Me,” the Churchwide gospel study curriculum. The Holy Week study experience is an opportunity not only to learn more about the Savior but also to reach out to Church members and other Christian friends to demonstrate a shared faith in Jesus Christ.

On Saturday, April 4, and Easter Sunday, April 5, Latter-day Saints will participate in the global general conference, the largest faith-based gathering of its kind. General conference is an opportunity for Latter-day Saints to link the Savior’s mortal ministry with His living prophets on the earth today.
April’s general conference is also unique because it will include a solemn assembly to sustain the new First Presidency and two new members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: Elder Gerard Caussé and Elder Clark Gilbert. President Dallin H. Oaks will also deliver his first conference talk as the Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The First Presidency announced in November 2025 that beginning April 2026, general conference will no longer include a Saturday evening session.
How Leaders and Members Can Use Sharing Resources
- See Easter.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, which launched February 22 in 10 languages, to find resources for a Christ-centered Easter, such as links to music and videos, Easter FAQs, children’s resources and more.
- On Easter.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, select Seasonal Resources for Leaders to find ideas for a Palm Sunday service, invitation templates, and a tool to help create customized meetinghouse banners and signs.
- Through social media channels, repost the new “Greater Love for You” Easter video on personal and organizational social media sites.
- As stake and ward councils, discuss ways to link Easter with the general conference weekend. One idea is to display a poster on the doors of your meetinghouse that explains to visitors why meetinghouses are empty on conference weekend (download PDF).
- Create invitation opportunities to celebrate and elevate the Easter season with friends and opinion leaders. Use chapel signage and sharing invitations to promote Easter activities and invite community participation.
Chapel Signage
Outdoor signage at church locations may be used to invite the community to Easter-season and Palm Sunday services, sharing a welcoming message of Christ’s love and encouraging individuals and families to join in worship and reflection.
